 Note from Karen

Hi Everyone:

First, I just want to say, how beautifully creative you people are.   I love sharing pictures of your wonderful creations, unfortunately I am not yet organized enough to be there.  That doesn’t mean while processing I don’t notice.  I do… and then I fight not to take pictures, just because loading them into the website is timely and I don’t want to sit there that long.  BUT I LOVE THEM, AND THANK YOU ALL FOR CONTINUING TO SUPPORT OUR EFFORT.    Hopefully soon I will start including pictures again on the website, but limit it to, 5 or 8, or 10.  LOL.  You get the idea.

I have a very important Second topic and it comes from Project Linus National.  PINS.  Please check your blankets for pins before turning them in.  Please check carefully.  I of course, am going to do so, also, but as  nationally children have been stuck recently with pins sewn into  or left in blankets, it needs repeating.  ALSO, PLEASE DO NOT PIN A NOTE TO THE BLANKET.  A note in the bag of the blanket should suffice, but if you need to attach the note, please do so with tape, masking tape or blue painter’s tape work really well.  Please, please, please do not submit any kind of pin with your blankets anymore.  LET ME REPEAT THAT,  PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT BLANKETS WITH ANY PINS, WHAT SO EVER.   NONE.              PL National is recommending people use those cute little clips instead of pins.  So, I will repeat again,  Project Linus National does not want blankets with any kind of pin left in it when you submit it.   Thank you.

Please also DO NOT WASH YOUR BLANKETS IN SCENTED DETERGENT.  DO NOT USE DOWNEY UNSTOPPABLES.  Children in the hospitals cannot deal with perfumed detergents.  I cannot deal with the perfume detergents.  It’s awful.  I drove home from a recent pick up day with my windows open, the scent of perfume was so strong.   Please also watch your scented plastic bags.   No body needs scented garbage bags.  If you cannot find unscented bags to put your blankets in, email me – I will put some in the mail to you.  I  wash anything needing washing in Deft, or Wegman’s unscented Free detergent.   PLEASE NEVER USE SCENTED DETERGENT ON MATERIAL FOR BLANKETS.

Next up,  October 5th from 1pm to 4pm at the Manlius Library we are going to have a 30,000 Blanket day.  Bring your machine, (I will have kits to make an easy blanket top),your crochet or your knitting, or just come to meet us and join me in having a piece a cake to celebrate us delivering 30,000 blankets to kids in need.  It will be a great afternoon to meet other blanketeers and say hi before the snow starts flying.  (which can’t happen soon enough for me).  I will also have a coloring block for everyone to color as I have saved some Project Linus fabric and we are going to make some blankets just from us blanketeers.

Quilting Challenge   Bring your Challenge Quilts with you to pick up days.  We will have voting for them towards the end of the month.

Hats, Mittens and scarfs.  It’s getting to be that time of the year.  So I am again collecting hats, mittens and scarfs for the school districts.

Events:

Manlius Library – blanket top day

Our next sew a blanket top  day is going to be November 2nd  from 10am to 1pm.  Bring your sewing machine or let me know and I can bring one of mine or sign you up for one of the Library’s 5 machines and you can join in the fun.  If you don’t want to sew, we can put you at an ironing station to iron seems, or you can just walk around and help those with less sewing knowledge.   I will have material kits again.  Please don’t bring material of your own unless you want to donate it.  I am trying to use up donations and the kits I have are made up to create blankets the size I need.

Manlius Library is now a drop – off spot for our blankets.   They have a bin, please make sure blankets are in a bag and have your contact information inside.
