Blankets!

We are always in need of homemade brand new Blankets for kids in need.

Our Chapter will no longer be accepting blankets that are not made according to our printable instructions. Our Chapter will no longer be accepting fleece tie blankets that are not knotted.  The chapter will not accept fleece blankets with fringe that is simply tucked through a hole in the fringe.   Our chapter feels the blankets come apart too easily if they are not knotted.   There are you tube video's below that show how to correctly tie a fleece tie blanket.

When making fleece tie blankets it is important to follow our directions on cutting off the salvage edge,  the edge that rolls, and then cutting a square out of each corner first.   That is how you make fleece blankets that do not fold  in on themselves and blankets that look nice.

Making a Fleece Tie Blanket

I have included 2 you tube videos of how I like fleece tie blankets to be made.   Please make sure all fleece tie blankets are knotted on the fringe tie, so that the blankets hold together.

How to make a fleece Blanket!!!!

You'll Need:

  • fleece,  You will need  2 pieces of 1 1/2 yards each for a grade school or teen blanket.

  • masking tape

  • good scissors

  • a ruler or tape measure

How To:

The following is a step-by-step process for creating a no sew blanket

1. CUT THE SELVAGES OFF THE FLEECE! This is the edge of the fabric that runs the length of the cut. It is how the factory makes the fleece. It is usually curled over and thinner and sometimes white in color. Please cut off this edge on both sides. It only takes a minute to do and makes a much nicer finished blanket. Plus if you cut it off now, I don’t have to cut it off later!!!! (Please and thank you.) Also straighten out any badly crooked ends.

2. CUT A 4“ SQUARE FROM EACH CORNER. Tip: Place masking tape around all 4 sides of the blanket – measuring 4 inches in from each side. Cut off the 4 corners where the tape intersects. Fleece sticks to fleece without using pins!! You are cutting off the corners so that after you cut and tie the fringe you won’t be left with some really weird hunk of fabric in the corners.

3. NOW CUT FRINGE ON ALL 4 SIDES. Cut the fringe between ½ inch to 1 inch wide. Do not cut fringe wider than 1 inch as it makes it hard to tie. Double knot the fleece ties so that the ties do not come undone. DO NOT TIE TO TIGHTLY OR BLANKET WILL START TO CURL.
