Note from Karen
Hi Everyone:

It has been a long month. I just can’t seem to shake whatever is going on in my respiratory system. So I am muddling through. WE HAVE LOTS TO COVER THIS MONTH ABOUT WHAT WILL TAKE PLACE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS. SO, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND MAYBE SAVE THIS NEWSLETTER TO REFER BACK TO.
First I want to remind everyone, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT BLANKETS WITH PINS IN THEM. Even if the pin is just holding a note with size and name , NO PINS. Please use tape instead. This comes from Project Linus National. No Pins.
I am also going to repeat, Please also DO NOT WASH YOUR BLANKETS IN SCENTED DETERGENT. DO NOT USE DOWNEY UNSTOPPABLES. Also, please watch your material. If there is a stain on the material, I will not be able to use the blanket. It will go to the SPCA. Our blankets are to be freshly made for the children and with material that is clean and unstained.
I will be doing pick-ups in November and December, however after the December pick-ups there will be no pick-ups until March. I will be asking you to hold on to your blankets until I send you an email giving the March pick-up dates. I am having surgery on January 7th to replace my right knee. So, I will be laid up January and February. Please do not take your blankets to our drop-off sights during those months. They will just call me and I will have to arrange for people to go get them. I just don’t want the hassle. Thank you for understanding.
This one is important: If you are talking to someone about Project Linus and you don’t think they have a clear idea of what we are about, but they are interested please give them my contact information, or ask if I can contact them and give me their information. Recently there was an incident where someone had gotten some very bad information about Project Linus and what we do and whether we charge dues to belong, things like that. A blanketeer reached out to me and I was able to straighten out the misinformation. I never want anyone to think badly about Project Linus and their mission.
The last thing I have hesitated to discuss for months. I have agonized at even thinking of bringing it up, however it has come to a point where I have to. I am hopeful that I hurt no one’s feelings. I am humbled right down to my baby toe at the number of you, who think so much of me that you wish to bring me gifts at pick-up days. I don’t expect gifts and I feel very strongly I can no longer accept them. Mainly due to the fact, I have no more room. In my house or my car. There have been times I have had to pile stuff on Dad’s lap, because with all the blankets I had no room in the back for the gifts. My house can hold no more knickknacks. And as much as I love coffee and coffee cups, my cupboards can’t handle anymore of those either. It leaves me speechless that so many of you want to show me that you appreciate what I do, even by bringing me treats. But I am trying (without success) to watch what I eat and my husband keeps getting signs of pre-diabetes, so he doesn’t help me eat any of the treats. So, I end up eating it all. ((UGH)). I did discuss this with a blanketeer/friend and she said, once it’s gifted, it’s yours to do as you see fit, just regift or donate. Sage advice, unless you were raised by my mother. My mother taught us if someone thought enough of you to give you that gift. You will use it and you will appreciate it…. No matter how much you don’t like it. ((( I put this under good old Catholic Guilt)). But all these years later, I still hear her, but they are showing you how much they appreciate you, shut up and like your gifts. LOL. So, after thinking all this month about this, I decided to give a concession. If you really feel strongly about gifts, I can always use pet hair rollers and curly ribbon. I go through tons of curly ribbon to tie the blankets with, and the pet hair rollers help me get strings and fuzz off the blankets. I can always use those.
New Drop-off sight: I am super excited to announce we have a new drop-off sight in Watertown. The Quilt Shop , which is located at1625 State Street. They have a Facebook page (The Quilt Shop on State Street). I went up and spoke to Rhonda, gave her information sheets to give to interested quilters. It is such a cute shop and she had some different material prints available. My husband went with me and she has a good assortment of military material – so he picked up some. No idea yet what I will be making with it. I am sure he will let me know eventually. Anyway, a super cute shop, just a couple of miles down the main road from the exit. So welcome to The Quilt Shop and any patrons of the shop interested in Project Linus.

Events:
Manlius Library – blanket top day
We had a Wonderful sewing day November 2nd at the Manlius Library. All the (Manlius Library Blanketeers) created 15 blanket tops that day. We had lots of laughs and some cake, we debated pressing open seams or pressing to one side. You know, we discussed the important issues facing us all. So a huge thank you to our Manlius Blanketeers : Julie, Gail, Emily, Eileen, Angela, Pat, Anne, Lydia, Julie, Yvonne, Christine, Madeleine and Sherry for the great work. Fifteen more kids will have a nice warm blanket.
Our next sew a blanket top day is going to be January 4th from 1pm to 4pm. Bring your sewing machine or let me know and I can bring one of mine or sign you up for one of the Library’s 5 machines and you can join in the fun. If you don’t want to sew, we can put you at an ironing station to iron seems, or you can just walk around and help those with less sewing knowledge. I will have material kits again. Please don’t bring material of your own unless you want to donate it. I am trying to use up donations and the kits I have are made up to create blankets the size I need.
Blanket Pick Ups: I should be driving the Silver Ford Escape. But just incase the other vehicle is a gold Chevy Equinox.
